Our Frankenstein stories

The class had to write a "suite de texte " to the story of Frankenstein. The scene takes place when Dr Frankenstein, hidden in his yard, is trying to escape the monster he has created.....

 Story n°1

"Suddenly, Frankenstein saw the monster’s shadow through the window of the cabin. He thought that he would probably be safe in this little refuge … but he wasn’t. The heavy footsteps of the creature resonated  as strongly as the scared man’s heart.

Terrified by what could happen, he didn’t try to move. Asgord-it was his name- was walking  slowly around the refuge. Frankenstein, like a rabbit in a burrow, heard the strong breath(e) and the lugubrious growl of the beast. Then, no noise, only the rainfall, only the hooting of an owl. Only the brightness of the moon. The full moon with a white dress, reflected the manor far away, seemed to rush out of the sleepy countryside. Suddenly, the beast’s howly broke the frightful silence of the night and, with only one punch, the monster destroyed a side of the frail refuge.

Frankenstein was injured by the collapse of the wall. Trying to get free, crawling with difficulties, he felt Asgord’s dark eyes on  him  and the slow footsteps of his creature. The man couldn’t stop thinking to death; he couldn’t stop thinking to everything he had missed in his life and about his monstrous mistake.

Then, the beast lifted his master easily with one hand and took him to the terrifying and dark manor where life had begun. At this moment, many questions went through the weak man’s mind. What would happen? What did the monster want? Asgord had Frankenstein sit down on a chair. The frightened man saw all the threatening things that were in this room and that the monster could use to torture him. His fear turned into a nightmare and his nightmare into reality. Frankenstein tried to speak to the beast; to persuade him not to hurt him but no sound went out of his mouth. Then the man roared, which annoyed the monster who gave him a big slap. It was such a big slap that the man was killed instantly. Asgord was alone now, but he would probably look for someone else very quikly…"

Story n° 2

While thinking, suddenly, he saw the monster escaping from the manor. Frankenstein ran after him, caught his shoulder and tried to hold the creature. It turned back, grabbed his neck violently and tackled him on the wall whereupon the doctor fainted. When he woke up, he had his limbs chained to the operating table of his laboratory. He came to his senses and the first thing he saw was the creature with bloodshot eyes and clenched fists.

-       What did you do? Detach myself immediately.

-       Why would I do that, Doc?

-       I am your creator, you must respect me!

-       Only on one condition.

-       Oh I see! And what can I do for you, « Sir »?

-       I ask you to create for me a female creature that would look like me. You know, loneliness is a great suffering for the human being.

-       I refuse! You can’t have feelings! I’ve created you only to obey me!

The creature seized a scalpel and gashed Frankenstein’s forehead. The blood was like two small streams on either side of his head. His screams resounded in the whole manor.

-       You are suffering? Oh I’m sorry. Tell me, you still find any inconvenience to my proposal dear Doctor?

-       A..Alright, it’s enough. What do you expect from me?

-       Get corpses, to create my muse. You will dig them out of their tomb in the graveyard.

-       I’ll do what you said! I promise you, but don’t hurt me anymore.

Frankenstein left the house and ran to the nearest graveyard. He unearthed four corpses and brought them quickly to the mansion.

-              You’re already back? I guess you found female corpses, show them to me.

-              He..Here they are. I did not take the risk to dig more cadavers because it was too dangerous, I could be caught by someone.

-              Good, now do your job. But if you try to part company to me, you will suffer the consequences. But you’re someone I can trust, aren’t you?

-              Frankenstein began to work under the supervision of the monster. The bodies were torn to pieces and immediately joined together to form only one person.

-              I must admit that this is a good job. Unfortunately I am afraid that it does not move. But you have the solution, of course ...

-              Look closer, its muscles are moving!

The creature approached. Frankenstein grabbed a butcher knife and cut his throat. Blood spattered all over his clothes. The creature fell to the ground, and sighed:

-              Go straight to hell, your place is there !

The Doctor panicked and fled the castle covered of blood and screaming. A policeman who was passing by told him to stop, pointing a gun at him.

-              Put down your knife!

-              Ne…Never. Cre…creature is still…

He screamed and threw himself on the policeman. Because of a reflex, the officer pulled the trigger. Frankenstein was bleeding and in a final breath, he said:

-              Hell, here I am.

Story n° 3

I waited the rest of the night, alone, outside. I was terrified. My creation horrified me: it was a wild, cruel, soul less monster and I had to find a way to get rid of it.

I opened my eyes. I was in a laboratory there were tools on the table tops and graphs writing information on to long sheets of paper. Out the window I could see stars and the moon. They shined so bright in the night sky. It was like I knew all these words but I was discovering what they actually meant. It was as if all the wonder in the world had come to me and settled in this small room were miracles were made. As I limped over to the window, the door flew open.

I had to kill it. I had to. I burst through the door and pointed my over kind of gun handgun at the wretch I'd created. As soon as I'd pulled the trigger I felt relieved. The bullet had gone straight through the monster's heart. I stood and watched my creature die in agony and left the premises to get my mind off of things. I would return to bury it.

Father killed me. Father killed me. Father killed me. Father killed me.... My eyes shot open as I gasped for air. I stood and locked down at my punctured chest. At that moment rage overcame me and I threw everything that was near me across the room. I destroyed all the test-tubes and the sciencey -contraptions. I tore the graph papers and crushed the bottles of chemicals. I turned and saw I'd broken a mirror and as I saw myself in the broken pieces, I realized that I was a monster and that no one , no one , would ever love me. Hatred consumed me and I ran out of the house seeking revenge on the world.

I returned a few days later with a shroud and a shovel to bury the corpse of my creation but as I approached the front door, the stench of death filed my nostrils and I felt sick to my stomach. I carefully opened the door and walked in. The smell intensified and I understood where it was coming from: ten rotting bodies had been disposed around the large entrance hall, with their lifeless eyes fixed on me.

“Father… You're back. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you here with us. You look awful.” said a deep, husky voice coming from up the stairs. I was petrified and no sound could escape of my mouth.

“While you were away, I read, father. Since you hadn't given me a name, I had to find one for myself”. The wretch said, finally appearing in the staircase.

“There was one book I liked more than the others. It was violent and irrational. The Bible; that was its title. The story of Isaac touched me. Abraham almost killing his own son for the greater good... But you are no Abraham, father. But, I am Isaac.

“ I...I can help you...” He walked up to me and I saw the raw hatred in this eyes. They had turned pitch black.

“No. You cannot. The energy you used to create me did something to the house. The fact is that no one can die in this house. Look at me, and look at them”.

The corpses got up and started walking towards me.

“You…You wouldn't kill your father “

He looked at me.

“No, but now you'll live forever… With me.”

Story n° 4

I heard a cry which sent chills down my spine. Fear owverhelmed me, my heart beat faster and I was thinking "What I have done?". The project of all my life was frightening me now, and I was realizing that it was a mistake. In the courtyard, I heard heavy footsteps coming closer. It was here! I was scared, I stood up and looked left and right gruffly .When suddenly, I found myself in front of him, I could smell his horrible hot breathe. I was horrified by the freak. His yellow hand was grabbing my sleeve. What did he want to me? To hurt me? To retain me? To kill me? didn't try to know it.

I got away from his control and ran off into the gloomy, dismal and creepy wood. The trees looked like wretches. I was really frightening lonely and horrified. The image of this monstrous creature haunted my mind.

Far off, I caught sight of the ruins of an old chapel. This forest was without lifeless.

The trees were dry and without leaves The ivy , climbing on their trunk, drew on the trunk their drank from them the last drops of saps which still flowed.

The old chapel was spooky, its stained glasses were broken, the door was a heap of bramble and dead herbs . Next to this chapel, an old iron  barrier surrounded a graveyard. The graveyard's door was grating with the wind, the crows were howling

a piercing cry. This sound resonated in my head and they made my whole body vibrate.

The graveyard was desert and abandoned. The thick and whitish mist recovered totally the tombs and their crosses. Black roses strewed around  the tombs and winded around the barrier. The atmosphere was oppressive and spooky. This graveyard was foreshadowing a bad omen. Behind the chapel, there was a mausoleum and I decided to rush inside it. I was scared to death and I stumbled on a doll's head. My skull struck a slab and I fainted...

Little by little, I regained consciousness. My vision was blurred ans I distinguished only a dark shape next to me. I understood that it was the monster, Frankenwein. Why wasn't he moving ? He wasn't attacking me! The light of the full moon lighted up the mausoleum, which reinforced the gloomy aspect of the graveyard. The distant sounds of the crows were breaking.

The almost supernatural silence of the forest. I could hear the heart of the wretch pulsating. All his muscles were in motion. His breathe evaporated in a white and thick vapor which was like a lost soul under the light of the moonlight. The wretch seemed so huge now. I stood up and I came to Frankenwein. A few words went out of my mouth. I tried to speak with him. I understood that he was trying to communicate but he didn't manage to speak.

Suddenly, he tooked a stick and started drawing something in the dust.

A part of me realized that the being I had created was more human and more intelligent, than I had expected. Fright overcame me and for a moment I didn't know any more where I was.

In the dust, the monster had drown a heart.

Story n° 5

I heard a cry. I immediately thought of my wife and my children who were in our house. My heart stopped to beat. The monster was trying to kidnap them.

Through the tool shed’s window, where I was hidden, I saw my love who was trying to escape the demon. She was crying and was looking really pale. My creation was irritated and angry and was coming towards. I took a breath and screamed to make a diversion. The creature came to me when he heard my shout. I didn’t know what to do so I came back in the tool shed and took a knife. He arrived with a demonic laugh. I felt suddenly invincible. I was ready to fight everything. I ran to the monster, as fast as I can, and stabbed the knife in the brute’s chest. He screamed and felt down.

I didn’t stop my run and went to the house where my family was. I went in the livingroom, looked for my wife in every rooms and I didn’t find her. I heard a sound in the closet; she was hidden there with the children. She was curl up and out of breath; the children didn’t know what was going on. My spouse looked at me, with an anxious look. She got off the ground and I embraced her. We remained entwined a long time. I didn’t know if I had to confess what I had done but I thought it was better to tell her, so did I.

“- Honey, I … I have to tell you something. You know I love you and the children too. I made something horrible … and I don’t know if you will forgive me one day. But I have to be honest with you …

- Darling, what’s going on? You scare me! Is it in relation with that creature who tries to kill both of us? You scare me! I’m terrified! Please, tell me!

- This demon … I don’t know how to tell you but … This is mine … I created him … but please, don’t ask me how and why. I want you to go; this monster is able to kill you. Please, go away with the children in our chalet in the forest. I’ll take care of the monster…I promise I will join you. “

My wife stopped to breathe. She looked afraid, disappointed; she was crying and couldn’t look at me anymore. She took the children, without saying any words and avoiding my gaze. The children were looking at me and ran away with their mother.

A few minutes later, I felt horribly lonely. I realized that I had lost the most important persons in my life. It was the last time I had taken my children in my arms and kissed my love. It was only ten minutes they were gone, but I already missed them. The house became empty, sad and lifeless. I never felt it like that.

I had told my wife I would be joining them later but I wasn’t certain about what I said. The monster could kill me. I created him powerful and unbeatable but I didn’t think he would someday want to kill his creator.

I was here, on the stairs, thinking of my family when I heard a sound in the livingroom. I went there, carefully, without making any noise, to see what was going on. I opened partway the door and I heard the monster in the subsoil.

Indeed, one year ago, I had made a hole in the ground because I wanted to create another room for the children in the house. But I finally didn’t do it because I didn’t have the time to. So, I let the hole but I just had put a locked board on it, in case of I would do the room later.

Two hours ago, when I was looking for my wife who was hiding in the closet, I unlocked and removed the board, if the monster wanted to pass in the livingroom to find me, but I did it hopeless. The sound was the one of the monster taken in the trap. Miraculously, he felt in the trap when he was looking for me. I ran to the trap, to locked the board again and let the monster in.

Joy swamped me. I didn’t really realize my victory. I just had to kill the monster, but it would be easy, the most difficult was past. I would kill the demon, meet my family again in our chalet and take my children in my arms. It was a miracle; I didn’t think it could be possible. I just hoped my wife would forgive me …
